International Monetary Systems, Ltd. is engaged in acquiring, owning, managing and operating trade exchanges and other related businesses. The wholly owned subsidiaries of the Company are Continental Trade Exchange, Ltd., doing business as International Monetary Systems (IMS), and National Trade Association, Inc. (NTA), both are part of the IMS barter system, which operates in the United States and Canada. During the year ended December 31, 2008, IMS services more than 18,000 barter customers. Trade exchanges, or barter networks, are financial service firms, which permit companies and individuals to exchange goods and services utilizing an electronic currency known as trade dollars. In May 2008, the Company acquired the assets and client base of Business Network, Inc.
