Microsoft Judge Sees ‘Fatal’ Flaw in Women’s Group Bias Case

Microsoft Corp. women engineers seeking to pursue gender-discrimination claims as a group were told by a judge there may be a “fatal” flaw in their case. A 2011 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court requires plaintiffs to point to a common corporate policy or action that affected the women adversely, U.S. District Judge James L. Robart said Monday at a hearing in Seattle about whether to let the case proceed as a class action. Activist investors push Sempra Energy for strategic review, board shakeup

Two investors in U.S. utility Sempra Energy including activist hedge fund Elliott Management on Monday urged a board shakeup and strategic review of the company’s businesses, sending its shares surging more than 14 percent. Elliott Management Corp and Bluescape Resources Co disclosed a combined 4.9 percent stake in Sempra Energy and called the company highly undervalued, saying it could be worth an additional $11 billion to $16 billion or a share price of $139 to $158.
