Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that presents a significant burden on health-care resources and patients’ quality of life. It is a complex disease with an array of clinical presentations and combinations of symptoms. The National Eczema Association notes that 31.6 million Americans suffer from eczema. Additionally, approximately 20 percent of children and up to 3 percent of the adult population globally have some form of eczema.
