(Bloomberg) — The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic, saying cases outside China have risen 13-fold. Local and state officials across the U.S. took several steps to discourage or ban large gatherings.The federal government’s top infectious-disease specialist told U.S. lawmakers the pathogen is 10 times more deadly than the seasonal flu.
