A union for casino workers and one of the largest resort operators in Las Vegas reached a tentative labor agreement Friday that would cover about a quarter of the 50,000 employees threatening the first citywide strike in more than 30 years. The new five-year deal with Caesars Entertainment covers about 12,000 bartenders, housekeepers, kitchen workers and others at nine casino-resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 said. Trump throws ailing U.S. coal, nuke plants a lifeline, triggers backlash

The White House billed the effort as a way to shore up national energy security, but the announcement triggered swift backlash from an unusual alliance of drillers, renewable energy producers and environmentalists who called it an unfair attempt to prop up non-competitive industries. “Unfortunately, impending retirements of fuel-secure power facilities are leading to a rapid depletion of a critical part of our nation’s energy mix, and impacting the resilience of our power grid,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement about the measure. …read more […]

U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross is proceeding with plans for trade talks in Beijing on Saturday, U.S. officials said, after the Trump administration launched steel and aluminum tariffs on Western allies and renewed its tariff threats against China. Two administration officials familiar with the matter said Ross’ negotiations of specific commitments on Chinese purchases of U.S. agricultural and energy commodities would take place over the weekend despite a report that initial haggling with Beijing this week could delay or cancel it. The purchases are aimed at reducing the $375 billion U.S. trade deficit with China. …read more […]

However, the question intrigued me enough that I decided to research the issue.

Poring over my database of thousands of ETFs, I did find a handful of strategies that have made money over each of the past five years.

Upon reflection, I was surprised I didn’t find more.

After all, we’ve been in the second-longest bull market of all time.

Still, there was one strategy that stood out.

And it stood out …read more […]

Robust Memorial Day weekend sales also bolstered retail auto deliveries, carmakers said. “The U.S. economy remains on a favourable trajectory,” said Ford Motor Co (F.N) chief economist Emily Kolinski Morris during a media briefing call on Friday. Ford estimated full-year industry sales could fall slightly to the high 16 million to low 17 million range, as automakers trim low-margin sales to fleet customers and deal with an increase in used cars coming off lease to compete with new vehicles. …read more […]
